An open brass oval frames the real trick of this base — inside it, a cluster of slender vertical rods cascades down from the top and rises up from the bottom like a miniature city skyline reflected upside down, meeting somewhere in the middle without quite touching. The negative space inside the ring does as much visual work as the metal itself, letting light and wall show through around that fringe of rods. A dark round marble foot grounds the airy, linear brass work in something solid and weighty, while a soft grey drum shade above keeps the top half calm after all that intricate detail below.
